Objects of Projection

Objects of Projection is series of works made with oil pastels on paper. Each work consits of a Gold Object on the left side meant to anchor the mind and allow the abstract projection on the right side to unravel. These works act as a reflection and evolution of my perspective on abstraction. Previously when creating abstract work I believed it was necessary for the work to have a conceptual base. I still believe conceptual abstraction is invaluable but I had used it as a tool to justify my work. Feeling my technical ability couldn’t match my visions I soaked the work with myth and explanation hoping it would allow the art to stand on its own. As I have honed my technical skills i have felt a need to create work without meaning. This lack of meaning allows the artwork to be what it is meant to be. Allowing the burden of definition to erode, opening up new possibilities previously limited by my perception. Limited by my incessant need to prove myself. I now seek a way that is more free. A way that allows me to work without limits. Look at these projections from my mind to paper. What do you feel? What do you think? What is the purpose of these mysterious objects?
